The 12 Monkey Picture Show

After a fairly boozy night in the local coffee bar a few weeks back we realised that some of our teaching colleagues had some how missed a whole host of classic and cult movies.

Armed with the department’s projector we set about resolving this unfortunate situation. The first two on the hit list were the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Twelve Monkeys.

A few days back we settled down for Rocky Horror and within moments some of the bigger fans were singing along to the songs. I’d not seen it in a few years and really enjoyed watching it again. I know it tends to be one of those films you either love or hate and thankfully those watching who hadn’t seen it before loved it.

Last night was Twelve Monkeys. Again on the sofa we had the uninitiated. Over beers much had been made about Brad Pitt’s performance in the film, and those watching were not disappointed. A lot can also be said of Bruce Willis, especially some of the scenes in the car involving him, his psychologist, and the radio. The scenes based in the future reminded me a lot of Terry Gilliam’s other classic “Brazil” which I now plan to watch again soon.

The next film to tick off the list will be the Big Lebowski.
